You will learn how to strip a thermostat wire and mount it into a thermostat.

Step 1: Grab a pair of diagonal wire cutting pliers and and cut into thermostat wire about a quarter inch or 1/2 inch and you’re going to take needle nose pliers with another pair of needle nose pliers to pull away the dissected wires from each other.

Peel off the insulation half way through the thermostat wire exposing the inner wiring. Cut the peeled off insulation of the thermostat wire using diagonal pliers.

Step 2: Cut off the initial ends of the thermostat wiring. Take the brown wire (6th wire) and wire that around the outer jacket if you do a furnace or air conditioning system, you would only need the 5 wires, (red, white, green, yellow, blue).

Red 24v
White  Heat
Green Fan
Yellow Cooling
Blue Common (C wire to hard-wire the thermostat)

If you’re not hardwiring, you can fold the blue wire around the outer jacket as well.

Step 3: Strip each wire from the ends about a quarter inch. Avoid rocking the wire when stripping the ends as it could lead to scaring your wire which is going to lessen the integrity of the wire.

Step 4: Once all the wire ends are stripped off you will insert the thermostat wires from behind the thermostat base-plate through the rectangular opening.

Note: Keep in mind that you want to have the least amount of bare copper wire out of the black terminal block

Step 5: Put the Red wire in first. Loosen the screw of the R terminal to get the R wire in, wiggle it a little and tighten the screw clockwise.

Step 6: Next you need to repeat the same process for wiring the C wire in the C terminal.

Step 7: Put the Green wire right in the G terminal, loose its screw insert the bare copper wire in and tighten the screws as firmly as possible as you do not want to have loose contact which would then lead to the thermostat not functioning properly.

Step 8: Next, you have the Yellow wire for cooling, repeat the same process to wire it to the terminal block.

Step 9: Lastly, you have the White wire which is for heat, again repeat the same process to wire the heating wire.

Safety Instruction: Make sure the wires connected to the terminal block do not come in contact with each other, keep them apart from each other.

Because what will happen is you’ll be trying to call for heat and cooling will turn on which is obviously not good.
